Not Medea begins performances tonight at Perseverance Theatre.

In the play by Allison Gregory, a single-mother gets one night to herself, escapes to the theater, and becomes part of the performance — along with the audience. This contemporary play jumps off the Greek classic to ask questions about motherhood, marriage, and adoption.

The cast includes Shelley Virginia (Woman), Enrique Bravo (Jason), and Cate Ross (Chorus). Tom Robenolt directs.

The creative team includes Akiko Nishijima Rotch (scenic designer), Art Rotch (lighting design), Peggy McKowen (costume design), Rory Stitt (sound design), and Kadey Ambrose (stage manager).

Performances run through November 6.

Following this engagement Not Medea will run at Alaska Center for the Performing Arts November 11-20.
