Off the Main Road begins performances tonight at the Williamstown Theatre Festival's Main Stage. Set against the backdrop of the second wave of feminism, the play follows elegant but emotionally fragile Faye Garrit. She checks in at a rundown resort just outside St. Louis with her 17-year-old daughter in an effort to escape her husband. Despite the uncertainty of their futures, the maelstrom of personal, political, and sexual awakenings may provide them with a path forward.

Written by William Inge and directed by Evan Cabnet, the show features Emmy Award winner Kyra Sedgwick as Faye Garrit, Becky Ann Baker as Mrs. Burns, Aaron Costa Ganis as Gino, Howard W. Overshown as Jimmy Woodford, Estelle Parsons as Mrs. Bennet, Mary Wiseman as Julie Conroy, Daniel Sharman as Victor Burns, Jeremy Davidson as Manny Garrit, Joseph Huffman as Red, and Jonothon Lyons as Police Officer.

Off the Main Road was, until recently, a lost work of Inge’s canon. It was found and reintroduced by the Inge estate in 2008.
