The Tony Award-winning American Repertory Theater at Harvard University has announced casting for its upcoming production of The Heart of Robin Hood, written by Royal Shakespeare Company Associate Director David Farr. Farr brings the play to A.R.T. after presenting it at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre during its 2011-12 season.

A prequel to the classic English legend, The Heart of Robin Hood follows the title character and his band of outlaws as they steal from the rich but fail to share their spoils with the poor. They become widely disliked throughout the land while citizens are forced to pay unfair taxes to the evil Prince John, who plots to steal his brother's crown. Through this time of social and political upheaval, Marion must come to the aid of the poor and convince Robin to listen to his heart if he wishes to save the country from ruin.

Icelandic director Gisli Örn Gardarsson helms a cast starring Jordan Dean (Mamma Mia) as Robin, and Christina Bennett Lind (All My Children) as Marion. They are joined by two-time Tony nominee Christopher Sieber (Shrek) as Pierre, Claire Candela (Once) and Andrew Cekala (Pippin) as the children Sarah and Jethro Summers, Jeremy Crawford (Disney's Aladdin) as Little John, Zachary Eisenstat (Superior Donuts) as Will Scarlett, Andy Grotelueschen (Into the Woods) as Much, Laura Sheehy (Cabaret) as Plug, Louis Tucci (If You Could See: The Alice Austen Story) as Makepeace, Damian Young (All My Sons) as Prince John, and Katrina Yaukey (War Horse) as Alice.

The creative team includes set design by Borkur Jonsson, costume design by Emma Ryott, lighting design by Bjorn Helgason, and sound design by Jonathan Deans.

Performances will run from December 11-January 19, 2014, at the Loeb Drama Center.
