The Bridges of Madison County begins performances tonight at SpeakEasy Stage Company.

Based on Robert James Waller's novel, The Bridges of Madison County features a book by Marsha Norman with music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown. The musical follows the events that unfold after a chance meeting between an Italian-American farm wife and a world-weary photographer lead to a soul-stirring affair.

M. Bevin O’Gara directs the cast led by Jennifer Ellis (Francesca) and Christiaan Smith (Robert). They are joined by Christopher Chew (Bud), Kerry A. Dowling (Marge), Katie Elinoff (Carolyn), Will McGarrahan (Charlie), Nick Siccone (Michael), and Alessandra Valea (Marian). Completing the ensemble is the work of Peter S. Adams, Rachel Belleman, Taylor Okey, Ellen Peterson, and Edward Simon.

The production includes set design by Cameron Anderson, costume design by Mary Lauve, lighting design by Annie Wiegand, and sound design by David Reiffel.

Performances continue through June 3.
