Two-time Tony Award nominee Brandon Victor Dixon will join the cast of Broadway's Hamilton in the role of Aaron Burr beginning Tuesday, August 23. Dixon replaces the role's originator, Leslie Odom Jr., who won a Tony Award for his performance.

Dixon was nominated last season for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Shuffle Along, and was previously nominated for Best Featured Actor for the original production of The Color Purple. He has also been seen in Motown the Musical and The Scottsboro Boys, among other shows.

Directed by Thomas Kail and inspired by Ron Chernow's biography Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton explores the life of the American founding father and first Secretary of the Treasury, as well as his experiences as an orphan of the British West Indies who immigrated to the 13 Colonies and helped shape the United States of America. The show, which had its world premiere at the Public Theater, features a hip-hop score written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. In addition to winning the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Hamilton won 11 Tony Awards this year, including the evening's biggest prize, Best Musical.
