Broadway's Come From Away, which opened at the Schoenfeld Theatre on March 12, has announced plans to launch a North American tour in October 2018 at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre, the site of the musical's first professional workshop. The show will also open a production at Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre (where it held one of its pre-Broadway engagements), beginning performances February 13, 2018.
"From the first time we saw Irene and David's telling of this extraordinary true story, we were passionate to share this tale of hope and humanity with as many people as possible," said representatives of Junkyard Dog Productions. "With the overwhelming emotional response the show has received from critics and audiences alike, we are thrilled to now be setting out on this journey across North America."
Featuring a book, music, and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, Come From Away is directed by Tony nominee Christopher Ashley and choreographed by Tony nominee Kelly Devine. Set against the backdrop of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the show follows what happens when 38 planes and 6,579 passengers are forced to land in Gander, Newfoundland, doubling the population of "one small town on the edge of the world."
The cast features Chad Kimball, current Tony nominee Jenn Colella, Kendra Kassebaum, Geno Carr, Joel Hatch, Rodney Hicks, Lee MacDougall, Caesar Samayoa, Q. Smith, Sharon Wheatley, Astrid Van Wieren, Petrina Bromley, Josh Breckenridge, Susan Dunstan, Tamika Lawrence, and Tony LePage.
The musical is nominated for seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Original Score.
