Dames at Sea Set to Open on Broadway

In 1966, Dames at Sea introduced New York to Bernadette Peters when she starred in the original Caffe Cino production off-off-Broadway. Now, 48 years after Peters made her Broadway debut (in 1967's Johnny No-Trump), Dames follows suit when it finally bows at Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre. With music by Jim Wise and a book and lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller, Dames is a favorite for high school and community theaters. This marks the first professional production in New York City in over a decade.
A send-up of backstage movie-musicals like 42nd Street, Dames at Sea is about Ruby (Eloise Kropp), a newcomer from Utah who just wants to dance on Broadway. She meets Dick (Cary Tedder), a handsome young sailor and composer, and quickly falls for him. Headliner Mona Kent (Lesli Margherita) also has her eyes on Dick. When the theater is torn down, they all decide to perform Dick's new musical on a battleship.
Mara Davi (Joan), Danny Gardner (Lucky), and John Bolton (Hennesey; The Captain) make up the remainder of the cast. Tony-nominated choreographer Randy Skinner directs and choreographs. Click below for a first look at the show.
