Misty Copeland, Deborah Cox, and More Welcome Danai Gurira to Broadway With Eclipsed

Liesl Tommy directs the drama at the John Golden Theatre.

A host of trailblazing women came out for the first Broadway preview of Danai Gurira's Eclipsed at the John Golden Theatre on February 11. Misty Copeland, Kathleen Turner, Deborah Cox, and many more were on hand to welcome the new work, directed by Liesl Tommy and starring Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o, to the stage. Check out TheaterMania's photos in the gallery below.

Eclipsed takes a look at the Liberian Civil War from the perspective of women held captive by a Liberian rebel officer. With the arrival of a new woman who can read, and the return of an old one who can kill, their possibilities are quickly transformed. Nyong'o stars alongside Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah, and Saycon Sengbloh.

Eclipsed played a sold-out run at Public Theater in 2015, as well as a run at Yale Repertory Theatre in 2009.
