Flashback Friday: Bernadette Peters Is Broadway's Dolly, but She'll Always Be Dot

Yesterday at the Shubert Theatre, Hello, Dolly! officially welcomed its latest Broadway royal, as two-time Tony winner Bernadette Peters re-opened the show in the role Bette Midler originated in the revival production last year.

Peters has been a stage favorite since the 1960s, making a name for herself in shows like George M!, Dames at Sea, and On the Town, which earned her her first Tony nomination in 1972. One of her best-known roles, however, came in 1984 when she played the role of Dot in Sunday in the Park With George, her first of many collaborations with the great Stephen Sondheim. To celebrate her Broadway return, we're flashing back to her rendition of "Everybody Loves Louis" from Sunday in the Park — a fitting tribute because everybody loves Bernadette.
