Flashback Friday: Bernadette Peters, from Rose to Dolly

Peters replaces Bette Midler in ”Hello, Dolly!” in January.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Bernadette Peters will return to Broadway — and to the Shubert Theatre — to replace Bette Midler in the title role of Hello, Dolly! It was at the Shubert that Peters starred as Rose in Gypsy, a role that Midler also once played in a 1993 television movie. Playing Rose and then Dolly is more common than one would think (Ethel Merman also famously played both, and in that order, as well). But no matter what the connection, Peters taking the New York stage once again is extremely exciting. Here she is, boys! Here she is, world!
