Full Casting Announced for Jennifer Hudson-Led Broadway Revival of The Color Purple

Cynthia Erivo and Danielle Brooks head the company of the acclaimed musical.

Complete casting has been announced for the upcoming Broadway revival of The Color Purple, to be directed by Tony winner John Doyle at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

The production's ensemble will be made up of Phoenix Best, Dwayne Clark, Lawrence Clayton, Carrie Compere, Patrice Covington, Adrianna Hicks, Bre Jackson, Grasan Kingsberry, Kevyn Morrow, Ken Robinson, Antoine L. Smith, Carla R. Stewart, Akron Watson, and Rema Webb.

They join the previously announced Cynthia Erivo (as Celie), Oscar and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson (as Shug Avery), Danielle Brooks (as Sofia), Isaiah Johnson (as Mister), Joaquina Kalukango (as Nettie) as Nettie, and Kyle Scatliffe (as Harpo).

The Color Purple has scenic design by John Doyle, costume design by Ann Hould-Ward, lighting design by Jane Cox, sound design by Gregory Clarke, hair and wig design by Charles G. LaPointe, music supervision by Catherine Jayes, and music direction by Jason Michael Webb.

Adapted from the novel of the same name by Alice Walker, The Color Purple features a book by Marsha Norman with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray. It tells the story of a woman named Celie as she navigates her life in rural Georgia in the early 1900s. This production, which originated at London's Menier Chocolate Factory in 2013, is set to begin performances November 10, with opening night set for December 10.
