Paula Vogel's Indecent was scheduled to end its run at the Cort Theatre on June 25. However, due to the surge of support from the theater community and beyond, the show will extend for a few more weeks, playing its final performance on August 6.

Producer Daryl Roth released the following statement commenting on the turn of events.

"There are shows that remind you of the reason we all fell in love with theatre in the first place, and Indecent has been one of those shows for all of us involved with it. We have been thrilled that this show has affected audiences so profoundly during our Broadway run. But since we announced our closing, the electricity of what is happening at the Cort has been profound. So it gives me great pleasure to extend the life of Indecent for just a few more weeks on Broadway, to give theatregoers a little more time to see it before we pack up our suitcases for the final time on August 6."

The play with music is inspired by the controversial Broadway debut of Sholem Asch's play God of Vengeance. Some saw Asch's play as a seminal work of Jewish culture, while others saw it as an act of traitorous libel.

Indecent transferred to Broadway from the Vineyard Theatre production, which ran off-Broadway in 2016 in association with La Jolla Playhouse and Yale Repertory Theatre. The production, which received a 2017 Tony nomination for Best Play, marks the Broadway debuts of Vogel and Rebecca Taichman. Taichman won Tony, Outer Critics Circle, and Obie Awards for her direction, while Christopher Akerlind won a Tony for his lighting design, and David Dorfman won a Lortel Award for his choreography. Vogel was honored by the New York Drama Critics Circle and received a Lifetime Achievement Obie.

As with the off-Broadway production, the company includes Katrina Lenk (Once), Mimi Lieber (Act One), Max Gordon Moore (Relatively Speaking), Tom Nelis (The Visit), Steven Rattazzi (The Fourth Sister), Richard Topol (Fish in the Dark), and Adina Verson (Him). Co-composers Aaron Halva and Lisa Gutkin serve as the onstage band along with Matt Darriau.

The production's creative team includes Dorfman (choreographer), Riccardo Hernandez (scenic designer), Emily Rebholz (costume designer), Akerlind (lighting designer), Matt Hubbs (sound designer), and Tal Yarden (projection designer).

Upcoming licensed productions of Indecent will be seen at the Guthrie Theater and the Huntington, with more than 20 anticipated mountings during the 2018-19 season, in locations including Philadelphia, Ontario, and Tel Aviv.
