Burns, fresh from starring in the national tour of If/Then, will return to the role of Elphaba, which she previously played from 2011-2013. She also played the role on the musical's national tour, garnering an Irene Award nomination as a result.

Other cast members announced include Amanda Jane Cooper, making her Broadway debut as Glinda; Ashley Parker Angel (Fiyero); Jye Frasca, playing Boq in his Broadway debut; Rondi Reed, returning to the Broadway company as Madame Morrible, and Kristen Martin (Nessarose). P.J. Benjamin and Chad Jennings will continue playing The Wizard and Doctor Dillamond, respectively. Current cast members Jennifer DiNoia (Elphaba), Kara Lindsay (Glinda), Sheryl Lee Ralph (Madame Morrible), Michael Campayno (Fiyero), and Zachary Noah Piser (Boq) will give their final performances on Saturday, July 29.

Based on the novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire, Wicked is set in the land of Oz and tells the story of young girls Glinda and Elphaba, who grow up to become Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West, respectively.

Featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the production is directed by Joe Mantello with musical staging by Wayne Cilento. The show opened October 30, 2003, making it currently the 9th-longest-running production in Broadway history.
