Beautiful's Original Gerry Goffin, Jake Epstein, to Return to the Broadway Cast

Epstein will reprise the role he originated at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

Jake Epstein, the original Gerry Goffin in Broadway's Beautiful — The Carole King Musical, will return to the cast on September 22. He takes over for Scott J. Campbell who has been performing the role of Goffin, King’s first husband and writing partner.

In addition to his performance in Beautiful, Epstein is best known for his role as Craig Manning in Degrassi: The Next Generation. His theater credits include Spider-Man, Straight, Spring Awakening, American Idiot, and Billy Elliot. Epstein also recently cowrote and starred in the play Therefore Choose Life in Toronto.

With a book by Douglas McGrath and songs from the Gerry Goffin/Carole King/Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil catalogue, Beautiful officially opened at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on January 12, 2014. The show follows the life and career of singer-songwriter King and colleagues Goffin, Mann, and Weil, and features songs including "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," "One Fine Day," and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," among others.

The current Broadway cast of Beautiful features Chilina Kennedy as Carole King, Scott J. Campbell as Gerry Goffin, Jessica Keenan Wynn as Cynthia Weil, Ben Jacoby as Barry Mann, Paul Anthony Stewart as Don Kirshner, and Tony Award nominee Liz Larsen as Genie Klein. The ensemble also includes Gisela Adisa, Douglas Carpenter, Kevin Duda, James Harkness, Laurel Harris, Sara King, Rebecca LaChance, Douglas Lyons, Rob Marnell, Chelsea Packard, Gabrielle Reid, Nicholas Ryan, Rashidra Scott, Kimber Sprawl, Yasmeen Sulieman, Nasia Thomas, Daniel Torres, Melvin Tunstall, and Alan Wiggins.
