Jessie Mueller, Joshua Henry, and Renée Fleming to Return to Broadway in Carousel

Jack O’Brien will direct, with Justin Peck choreographing.

Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II’s classic musical Carousel is set to return to Broadway next season in a new production directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien and choreographed by Justin Peck. Opening night is set for March 23, 2018. Neither a theater nor a first performance date has been announced so far.

Joshua Henry (Shuffle Along) will portray Billy Bigelow, Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller (Waitress) will play Julie Jordan, and in her first appearance in a Broadway musical, famed soprano Renée Fleming will star as Nettie Fowler. The cast will also include Amar Ramasar as Jigger and Brittany Pollack as Louise.

Carousel first opened on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre on April 19, 1945. Based on Ferenc Molnár's play Liliom, Rodgers and Hammerstein transported the drama from the outskirts of Budapest to a New England mill town, where the story focuses on the tragic romance between carnival barker Billy Bigelow and factory worker Julie Jordan.
