Norm Lewis, Tamyra Gray to Join Company of Once on This Island

They will step in for Quentin Earl Darrington and Merle Dandrige, both of whom will be on contractual leave.

Norm Lewis and Tamyra Gray will step into the roles of Agwe and Papa Ge, respectively, in Once on This Island on January 8, 2018. Lewis will replace Quentin Earl Darrington and Gray will replace Merle Dandridge, with both actors going on temporary contractual leaves.

Directed by Michael Arden and choreographed by Camille A. Brown, Once on This Island features a book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty. The musical, which debuted on Broadway in 1990, is based on the novel My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy, and the revival production features new orchestrations by original orchestrator Michael Starobin, joined by AnnMarie Milazzo.

Hailey Kilgore leads the company in her Broadway debut as Ti Moune. She is joined by Phillip Boykin (Tonton Julian), Merle Dandridge (Papa Ge), Quentin Earl Darrington (Agwe), Emerson Davis and Mia Williamson (alternating as Little Girl), Alysha Deslorieux (Andrea), David Jennings (Armand), Kenita R. Miller (Mama Euralie), Alex Newell (Asaka), Isaac Powell (Daniel), and Lea Salonga (Erzulie). The Storytellers for this production include Darlesia Cearcy, Rodrick Covington, Cassondra James, David Jennings, Grasan Kingsberry, Tyler Hardwick, Loren Lott, T. Oliver Reid, Aurelia Williams, and Mia Williamson.
