Second Stage Theatre has announced the lineup of productions set for its inaugural Broadway season at the newly renovated Helen Hayes Theatre.

The theater will open in March 2018 with Lobby Hero, written by Oscar winner Kenneth Lonergan (This Is Our Youth, Manchester by the Sea) and directed by Trip Cullman. The production will star Michael Cera (This Is Our Youth, Juno) and Chris Evans (The Avengers) in his Broadway debut.

Young Jean Lee's Straight White Men, which premiered at the Public Theater in 2014, will then make its Broadway debut in July 2018, directed by Tony Award winner Anna D. Shapiro. Lee, in her Broadway debut, will become the first female Asian-American playwright ever to be produced on Broadway.

Future Broadway plans also include commissioned plays by Jon Robin Baitz, Will Eno, Lisa Kron, Young Jean Lee, Lynn Nottage, and Paula Vogel
through a co-commissioning program with Los Angeles' Center Theatre Group. CTG will additionally participate in co-commissioning partnerships with Chicago’s Goodman Theatre and London’s Royal Court Theatre and National Theatre.

Second Stage's off-Broadway productions at the Tony Kiser Theater include the New York premiere of Mary Page Marlowe (June 2018) by Tony winner Tracy Letts (August: Osage County), and the previously announced 35th anniversary production of Harvey Fierstein’s Tony-winning play Torch Song, directed by Moisés Kaufman (September 2017). The director of Mary Page Marlowe will be announced in the coming weeks.

Second Stage is also co-commissioning a new work from Bess Wohl (Small Mouth Sounds) for Broadway, through a partnership with the Williamstown Theatre Festival, as well as new works for Broadway from Lydia R. Diamond (Smart People) and Dominique Morisseau (Skeleton Crew), which will be developed in association with Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theater.
