Taran Killam to Make Broadway Debut in Hamilton

The blockbuster musical announces a slew of new principal cast members.

Producer Jeffrey Seller has announced five new performers to join the principal cast of Broadway's Hamilton.

Saturday Night Live veteran Taran Killam will make his Broadway debut as King George on January 17, 2017, replacing current cast member, Rory O'Malley, who will play his final performance on January 15. He returns to the stage following his summer stint in the Encores Off Center production of Little Shop of Horrors (Orin Scrivello) with Ellen Greene and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Alysha Deslorieux begins performances in the dual roles of Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds on December 16, replacing original cast member Jasmine Cephas Jones, who played her final performance on December 8. Deslorieux is an original cast member who was previously the standby for Eliza Hamilton, Angelica Schuyler, and Peggy Schuyler. Her other Broadway credits include Beautiful — The Carole King Musical and Sister Act.

J. Quinton Johnson will make his Broadway debut in the dual role Hercules Mulligan and James Madison on January 6, 2017. He replaces original cast member, Okieriete Onaodowan, who will play his final performance on December 24. Quinton Johnson landed his first major film role in Richard Linklater’s ensemble comedy Everybody Wants Some!! while a student at the University of Texas. This past year, he completed work in the upcoming musical re-imagining of the 1987 film Dirty Dancing for ABC and the upcoming AMC series The Son with Pierce Brosnan.

Anthony Lee Medina will also make his Broadway debut as as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton in March (date TBD). Current cast member, Jordan Fisher will pay his final performance March 5, 2017. Medina's theater credits include Otto in the first national tour of Spring Awakening, Usnavi in In the Heights at Theater Under the Stars, and Young Sal in the Public Theater’s The Capeman at the Delacorte.

Finally, Bryan Terrell Clark will begin performances as George Washington on January 10, 2017. Current cast member, Nicholas Christopher will play his final performance on January 8. Clark was recently seen in the Mark Taper Forum production of Immediate Family, directed by Phylicia Rashad. His previous theater credits include Broadway’s Motown, Alliance Theatre’s Sophisticated Ladies, and His Girl Friday at the Guthrie Theater. He also played Corey in Fences at the Pasadena Playhouse opposite Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett.

Javier Muñoz currently leads the Broadway cast as Alexander Hamilton alongside Brandon Victor Dixon as Aaron Burr, Mandy Gonzalez as Angelica Schuyler, Nicholas Christopher as George Washington, Lexi Lawson as Eliza Hamilton, Michael Luwoye as Muñoz’s alternate, Rory O’Malley as King George III, Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison, Jordan Fisher as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton, and Seth Stewart as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson.

With book, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, and music direction/orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, Hamilton is based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. The musical won eleven 2016 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Score, Book of a Musical, Direction of a Musical, Choreography, and Orchestrations. The musical also earned Miranda a Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
