The Color Purple makes its official return to Broadway tonight at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. Tony Award winner John Doyle's revival production comes to the Great White Way from London's Menier Chocolate Factory, where it premiered in 2013. The original Broadway production opened at the Broadway Theatre in 2005.

Adapted from the novel of the same name by Alice Walker, The Color Purple features a book by Marsha Norman with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray. It tells the story of a woman named Celie as she navigates her life in rural Georgia in the early 1900s.

The company is led by Cynthia Erivo (as Celie), Oscar and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson (as Shug Avery), Danielle Brooks (as Sofia), Isaiah Johnson (as Mister), Joaquina Kalukango (as Nettie), and Kyle Scatliffe (as Harpo).
