Reed Birney and Jayne Houdyshell have been involved with Stephen Karam's The Humans since its earliest stages. Both appeared in various readings over the course of its development and realized the show's potential for success. When they finally got the show onstage, Birney and Houdyshell saw that it was even better than they expected, and hoped that it would have a life after its off-Broadway run at Roundabout Theatre Company. What they didn't know was that Broadway was already in the play's sights, and that they'd be awarded 2016 Tony nominations for their performances.
