Sideshow Theatre Company's presentation of Caught begins performances tonight at Victory Gardens Richard Christiansen Theater.

An exploration of the line between reality and fantasy, the show centers on a Chinese dissident artists and activist. In a groundbreaking article, he presents an account of a nightmare confinement at the hands of the government. When people begin to question his story and search for proof, however, layers of perception begin to unfold in unexpected ways. With echoes of Ai Weiwei, Mike Daisey and Jonah Lehrer the very fabric of reality comes into question. With work by celebrated visual and performance artists the hallucinatory experience examines the consequences when we blur the line between story and truth.

Chen’s play is directed by Seth Bockley and features artistic associate Ann James, Ben Chang, David Prete, and Helen Young.

The creative team includes Kurtis Boetcher (set design), Izumi Inaba (costume design), Chris LaPorte (sound design), Gina M. Di Salvo (dramaturg), and Aaron Shapiro (production manager).

Performances will run through July 3.
