Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel presents the world premiere of her new play Indecent next month at Yale Repertory Theatre.

Yale Repertory Theatre will open its 2015-16 season with the world premiere of Indecent, a new play with music coproduced by La Jolla Playhouse.

Indecent is written by Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel (How I Learned to Drive), created by Vogel and Rebecca Taichman, and directed by Taichman, featuring music by Lisa Gutkin and Aaron Halva. Performances are scheduled to run at the University Theatre from October 2-24 with an official opening set for October 8. The production will then move to La Jolla Playhouse for a run from November 13-December 10.

The story is inspired by the true events surrounding the controversial 1923 Broadway debut of Sholem Asch's God of Vengeance — a play seen by some as a seminal work of Jewish culture, and by others as an act of traitorous libel. The play charts the history of the incendiary drama and the path of the artists who risked their careers and lives to perform it.

The cast of Indecent includes Katrina Lenk, Mimi Lieber, Max Gordon Moore, Steven Rattazzi, Richard Topol, Adina Verson, and Lenny Wolpe, and musicians Lisa Gutkin, Aaron Halva, and Travis W. Hendrix.

The creative team also features choreography by David Dorfman, music direction by Aaron Halva, scenic design by Riccardo Hernandez, costumes by Emily Rebholz, lighting by Christopher Akerlind, sound by Matt Hubbs, projections by Tal Yarden, dialect coaching by Stephen Gabis, Yiddish consultation by Joel Berkowitz, and dramaturgy by Amy Boratko.
