White Plains Performing Arts Center Announces 2012-2013 Season

White Plains Performing Arts Center has announced plans for its 2012-2013, 10th anniversary season.

The mainstage season will kick off with the New York regional premiere of August: Osage County (October 5-14), Tracy Letts’ play about a family patriarch who goes missing and his family who reunite at their Oklahoma home. Artistic director Jeremy Quinn will direct. Next, Quinn will direct the regional premiere of Alice Walker’s The Color Purple (February 1-24), a story of hope and the healing power of love featuring musical direction by Stephen Ferri. The season’s final mainstage show will be Oscar Wilde’s popular and witty farce The Importance of Being Earnest (April 5-14).

The 2012-2013 season will also feature two Spotlight Productions, which will aim to shine a spotlight on the music and lyrics of a well-known musical, where that was the key factor in the production’s success. The first Spotlight Production will be a Greg Baccarini directed and choreographed production of The Who’s Tommy (December 7-30), the tale of a young boy’s journey from pain to triumph. Second, WPPAC will shine a spotlight on Hair (May 3-12), the story of the “tribe”, a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the “Age of Aquarius.”
