The London revival of Peter Shaffer’s Equus, starring Richard Griffiths and Daniel Radcliffe, will close at the Gielgud Theatre on Saturday, June 9.

Equus will begin a 12-week tour of the U.K. at the Theatre Royal Bath on August 28, with casting soon to be announced. A Broadway production is planned for Spring 2008, followed by an Australian production. No specific dates for these engagements have been announced.

Directed by Thea Sharrock and designed by John Napier, the production opened at the Gielgud on February 27. By the time of its closing, it will have recouped its entire capitalization.

Equus tells the story of Alan Strang (Radcliffe), a deeply disturbed 17-year-old boy, and Martin Dysart (Griffiths), the psychiatrist who attempts to treat him. The play contains a lengthy nude scene during which Strang blinds six horses with a spike.

The production also stars Jenny Agutter, Will Kemp, Joanna Christie, Jonathan Cullen, Colin Haigh, Karen Meagher, Gabrielle Reidy, Greig Cooke, Joel Corpuz, Temujin Gill, and Jami Quarrell. It features lighting by David Hersey, movement by Fin Walker, and sound by Greg Clarke.
