Henry Goodman, Imelda Staunton Among the Winners of the 2012 Theatre Awards UK

Henry Goodman and Imelda Staunton were the big winners at the annual Theatre Awards UK, according to Whats On Stage.

Goodman received the coveted Best Performance in a Play honor for his work in The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, while Staunton won Best Performance in a Musical awars for her performance in Sweeney Todd, besting her co-star Michael Ball. (The Theatre Awards UK do not divide male and female performers into separate categories.

Sarah Ruhl’s Pulitzer Prize-finalist In the Next Room (or the Vibrator Play) received Best New Play, while The Go-Between won Best Musical Production.

Additional winners included Aidan McArdle (Best Supporting Performance for Democracy); Garry Hynes (Best Director for DruidMurphy); and Amanda Stoodley (Best Design for Manchester Lines), and Anne Boleyn (Best Touring Production).

The Theatre Awards UK honor theater throughout England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
