Meryl Streep to Present Shirley MacLaine With AFI Life Achievement Award

Meryl Streep will present Shirley MacLaine with the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award on June 7 in Los Angeles, according toDeadline.com . The ceremony will broadcast on TVLand on June 24.

MacLaine appeared early in her career on Broadway in Me and Juliet and The Pajama Game, and later appeared in three special engagements on the Great White Way. She won the Academy Award for Terms of Endearment and her many other films include Sweet Charity, Steel Magnolias, The Apartment, and The Turning Point. She is currently on the big screen in Bernie and will appear in the third season of PBS’ Downton Abbey.


Streep’s many stage credits include The Seagull, Mother Courage and Her Children, The Cherry Orchard, and Happy End. She will appear in a special benefit reading of Romeo & Juliet on June 18 at the Delacorte Theater. She has won three Academy Awards, for The Iron Lady, Sophie’s Choice, and Kramer Vs. Kramer.


MacLaine and Streep co-starred in the film Postcards from the Edge, based on Carrie FIsher’s semi-autobiographical novel of the same name.
