The Lion begins performances tonight at Geffen Playhouse.

In The Lion, written and performed by Benjamin Scheuer, Scheuer and his supporting cast of six guitars tell, sing, and play the turbulent story of his family and his own brush with mortality. Sean Daniels directs.

The Lion premiered off-Broadway in 2015 and won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance. Following the New York engagement, the show moved to London and received an Off-West End Award for Best New Musical.

Additionally, Scheuer is the recipient of a Theatre World Award, the Musical Theatre Network Award for Best Lyrics, and the ASCAP Cole Porter Award for Songwriting.

The creative team comprises Neil Patel (scenic design), Ben Stanton (lighting design), Leon Rothenberg (sound design), Jennifer Caprio (costume consultant), and Dom Ruggiero (production supervisor).

Performances run through February 19.
