Pasadena Playhouse has announced that Matt Magnusson will join the cast of the world-premiere musical Breaking Through, which begins performances October 27 at the Los Angeles theater. He replaces Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis (Rock of Ages), who was previously slated to perform the role of Scorpio. Maroulis is said to have left the company due to personal matters.

Magnusson's previous credits include Floyd Collins at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, American Idiot at The Vortex Theatre, and the films American Girl and Lost Angels. He will star opposite Alison Luff (Matilda The Musical), with a company that also includes Kacee Clanton, Robert W. Arbogast, Will Collyer, Teya Patt, Katherine Tokarz, and Nita Whitaker. The ensemble features Fatima El-Bashir, Jessica Jaunich, Reed Kelly, Christopher Marcos, Dominic Pierson, Andrew Pirozzi, Terrance Spencer, Laura L. Thomas, and Samantha Zack.

Breaking Through is told through the eyes of a young, talented singer and songwriter as she tries to navigate the treacherous shark-filled waters of the music business. She embarks on a compelling journey to find her way back to her authentic self and in the process rediscovers the music that truly makes her alive.

The production features a book by Kirsten Guenther, and music and lyrics by Cliff Downs and Katie Kahanovitz.
