Walt Disney Pictures continues its trend of live-action remakes of its most popular animated films with an announcement that Mulan is next on the docket. The project has been given a release date of November 2, 2018 — just over 20 years following the debut of the cartoon movie.

Mulan, Disney's 36th animated feature, is based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, who poses as a man to take her aged father's place in the army. Tony winner Lea Salonga played the original singing voice of Mulan, performing songs written by Matthew Wilder and David Zippel. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are penning the script for the reboot while Jason Reed is attached to produce along with Chris Bender and Jake Weiner.

The new project comes on the heels of several Disney live-action successes, including Maleficent and Cinderella, along with the upcoming Beauty and the Beast film, set for a March 2017 release. Disney also has new adaptations of The Little Mermaid and Mary Poppins in the works.
