Music superstar Lady Gaga is in talks to star in Bradley Cooper's upcoming film remake of A Star Is Born, according to Variety. The trade paper reports that negotiations regarding the singer's participation in the film are underway.

Based on William Wellman’s 1937 film, starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, the story follows an aspiring Hollywood actress and the aging movie star who helps launch her career. The film was remade in 1954, starring Judy Garland and James Mason, and again in 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

Cooper will direct, as well as produce the project through his WB-based company 22 Green, along with Jon Peters, Billy Gerber, and Basil Iwanyk. Clint Eastwood, who directed Cooper in his recent Oscar-nominated role in American Sniper, had been announced as the remake's director in 2011, with Beyonce Knowles in the starring role. Both later declined the project because of other obligations.
