Josh Brolin Working on Film Adaptation of Pits and Joe Play

Josh Brolin will produce, direct and star in a film adaptation of Dominique Cieri’s 1979 play Pitz and Joe, according to a report in Variety.

The piece focuses on a young man with brain damage incurred after an accident and his sister, who attempts to convince him into believing again that life is worth living. Cieri wrote the play following a car accident in which her older brother broke his neck.

Brolin wrote the short film X, which also served as his directorial debut. Among his film projects are the forthcoming True Grit, as well as Men in Black 3, which is currently shooting.

Pitz and Joe was workshopped at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, and was produced at Geva Theatre, in Rochester, NY; Hudson Theatre, Los Angeles; and The Red Hen, in Chicago. Among her other plays are For Dear Life, Last Kiss, and Count Down.
