Miami New Drama will present a stage adaptation of the 2006 documentary Cocaine Cowboys in winter 2019 at the Colony Theatre in Miami Beach.

Cocaine Cowboys is set in Miami circa the 1970s and '80s, an era when Colombian drug lords turned the city into the epicenter of a $20 billion carnival of cocaine, cash, and crime. The documentary was directed by Billy Corben and produced by Corben and Alfred Spellman through their Miami-based media studio Rakontur.

Information about the production, including playwright, dates, and creative team, will be announced in the coming months. Part of Miami New Drama's "Voice of Miami" Play Development Lab, the collaboration fulfills the troupe's mission to create original, nationally relevant drama that tells stories unique to Miami. The company was founded by Michel Hausmann and Moisés Kaufman.
