Five-time Tony nominee Douglas Carter Beane will debut his new comedy, Fairy Cakes, at the Scranton Shakespeare Festival. The play will run in the Royal Theatre at the University of Scranton's McDade Center for Literary and Performing Arts from July 25-26.

Fairy Cakes depicts what happens to Shakespeare's fairies when they are not onstage in A Midsummer Night's Dream and turn up as fairies in stories such as "Cinderella," "Pinocchio," and "Sleeping Beauty," and as the ubiquitous tooth fairy. Not to be outdone by a bunch of fairies, Shakespeare's own Puck participates in the play's comic pursuits.

Featured in the cast of Fairy Cakes are Grant Chamberlin, Megan Stewart, Tamara Sevunts, Lauren Renehan, Billie Aiken-Tyers, Gerome Sevunts, Daniel Redfern, Jonathan J. Stevens, Pedro Almeida, Conor Ling, Tamara Ratcliffe, James Physick, Emmie Gelat, Katey Lewis, and Michael Bradshaw Flynn.

Two-time Tony nominee Gregory Gale will design costumes, with scenic and lighting design by Rich Larson.
