Full casting has been announced for the musical Sleeping Beauty Wakes, a co-production of Deaf West Theatre and the Center Theater Group, which will run at the Kirk Douglas Theatre, March 31-May 13.

The show will be directed and choreographed by Jeff Calhoun, with a book by Tony Award winner Rachel Sheinkin (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and a score by Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda of the group Groovelily.

The show is a twist on the classic Grimm fairy tale which is set in a parallel worlds: a fairy-tale kingdom and a contemporary sleep disorder clinic. In both worlds, a caring father learns the difference between protecting and smothering his daughter, while the girl discovers the real costs of flirting with danger and the meaning of true love.

The cast will be made up of both deaf and hearing actors. In addition to Milburn and Vigoda, it will feature Erika Amato, Deanne Bray, Clinton Derricks-Carroll, Kevin Earley, Shannon Ford, Russell Harvard, Troy Kotsur, Christia Mantzke, and Alexandria Wailes.

The creative team includes Tobin Ost (sets), Maggie Morgan (costumes), and Michael Gilliam (lighting). Calhoun’s Broadway credits include Grey Gardens, Big River, Brooklyn the Musical, and Grease, for which he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Choreography.
