Geffen to Present New Cy Coleman Musical in November

The Geffen Playhouse will present the world premiere of The Best Is Yet to Come, a new musical featuring the songs of the late Cy Coleman, November 20-January 6, 2008. The show will be co-conceived by Larry Gelbart and David Zippel, and directed by Zippel. The three artists worked together on the Tony Award-winning City of Angels

The show, which will feature a five person cast, will features a variety of Coleman songs, including “The Best is Yet to Come,” “Big Spender” (from Sweet Charity), and “The Oldest Profession” (from The Life). Coleman’s other Broadway shows include Little Me, I Love My Wife, Wildcat, Seesaw, Barnum, and On the Twentieth Cenutry.

Prior to The Best is Yet to Come, the Geffen will present the West Coast premiere of Wendy Wasserstein’s Third, September 11-October 28. The drama, previously seen at Lincoln Center, concerns a college professor who becomes convinced that one one of her students is a plagiarist.
