Roundabout’s Bad Jews, Starring Tracee Chimo and Molly Ranson, Will Make Off-Broadway Debut

Roundabout Theatre Company’s hit production of Joshua Harmon’s Bad Jews is moving upstairs. The new comedy, which had an acclaimed, extended run in 2012 at Roundabout Underground’s 62-seat Black Box Theatre from October 30-December 30, will take the elevator up a few floors to make its official off-Broadway debut at the 420-seat Laura Pels Theatre, where it will begin performances on September 20.

The production’s original cast members, Tracee Chimo (Circle Mirror Transformation), Philip Ettinger (Edgewise), Molly Ranson (Carrie), and Michael Zegen (Oliver Parker!), will return for the off-Broadway staging, as will director Daniel Aukin (4000 Miles). Bad Jews finds two cousins (Chimo and Zegen) engaged in a potentially relationship-ending argument over the possession of their late grandfather’s prized Chai necklace.

Before the transfer, Michael Wilson’s revival of Lanford Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Talley’s Folly will hit the Laura Pels Theatre, starring Danny Burstein (Follies) and Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story), as well as Steven Levinson’s The Unavoidable Disappearance of Tom Durnin.

Roundabout has also announced the selections for its upcoming annual Underground Reading Series, held in the Black Box Theatre from February 25-March 1. This year’s program includes Jonathan Caren’s The Recommendation, directed by Laura Savia; Rachel Bonds’ Swimmers, directed by Portia Krieger; Mat Smart’s Tinker to Evers to Chance, directed by Jeremy B. Cohen; Christian Durso’s Shiner, directed by Ed Sylvanus Iskandar; and Kate Gersten’s Benefit of the Doubt, directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch.
