Arkin, Hudson, Morgan, Mirren, et al. Win BAFTA Awards

Winners of the Orange British Academy Film Awards, or BAFTAs, were announced today in London. The Queen took top honors as Best Film, Outstanding British Film of the Year, and Best Actress for Helen Mirren.

Other acting honors went to Forest Whitaker for Best Actor for The Last King of Scotland, Jennifer Hudson as Best Supporting Actress for Dreamgirls, and Alan Arkin for Best Supporting Actor for Little Miss Sunshine.

Other top honors went to Frost/Nixon playwright Peter Morgan for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Last King of Scotland; he also received a BAFTA as the screenwriter for The Queen. Michael Arndt won Best Original Screenplay for Little Miss Sunshine and Paul Greengrass was named Best Director for United 93, which also took home the award for Best Editing.

Other BAFTA winners included Happy Feet, Pan’s Labyrinth, Babel, Casino Royale, Children of Men, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.
