Sierra Boggess will play Ariel in the new Disney musical The Little Mermaid, which will begin a seven-week, pre-Broadway tryout at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts on July 26. The show will be directed by Francesca Zambello; it is scheduled to begin previews at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on November 3 and to open officially on December 6. Additional casting will be announced shortly.

The Little Mermaid is based on Disney’s Oscar-winning 1989 animated film and adapted from Hans Christian Andersen’s tale about Ariel, a beautiful young mermaid who longs to leave her ocean home. The musical has a book by Pulitzer Prize-winner Doug Wright; the Oscar-winning film score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman will be supplemented by nine new songs written by Menken and his Sister Act collaborator Glenn Salter.

The show will feature choreography by Stephen Mear, who is currently represented on Broadway by Mary Poppins. The production team also includes George Tsypin (sets), Tatiana Noginova (costumes), Natasha Katz (lighting), Angelina Avallone (make-up design), and David Brian Brown (hair design).

Boggess is currently playing Christine in Phantom — The Las Vegas Spectacular. Her previous stage credits include Les Misérables, West Side Story, The Pirates of Penzance, and Princesses.
