The Drama League Gains Performance Space and Welcome Center at New Drama League Theater Center

Broadway’s Will Swenson, Tony Sheldon, and Nick Adams announced the additions at the 29th Annual Musical Celebration of Broadway on February 11.

Last night, at the 29th Annual Musical Celebration of Broadway honoring five-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald (The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess), The Drama League announced the founding of two new spaces at its new headquarters at 32 Avenue of the Americas: The Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie Comley Studio Lab and The Joseph and Lauren Pizza Welcome Center. Both spaces will be components of the Drama League Theater Center, which opens this spring.

The studio will notably be a flexible-configuration creative space for the development of new plays and musicals. In addition, it will house the new Drama League Resident Artists Program, where selected directors and their collaborators will cultivate new works for the theater. Mr. Lane and Ms. Comley are five-time Tony Award winning producers.

The Joseph and Lauren Pizza Welcome Center will be the space welcoming guests as they enter The Drama League Theater Center, and will include the Founders’ Wall, a “hospitality Lounge,” reception amenities, and a reservations desk for all events.

Both spaces are designed by FXFowle, who also designed Lincoln Center’s renovation of Alice Tully Hall, and FisherDachs, co-founded by eight-time Tony Award-winning designer Jules Fisher.

The Drama League is a not-for-profit arts advocacy and education organization that aims to harness the unique social and creative dynamism of theater to deepen and strengthen the audience experience and train and nurture the artists of tomorrow
