Tickets are now available for what is sure to be another tour de force performance by Fiona Shaw. Drama Desk Award winner Fiona Shaw (Medea) will play the Virgin Mary in the Broadway debut of Irish novelist Colm Tóibín’s The Testament of Mary, which is set to begin previews at the Walter Kerr Theatre on March 26, playing a limited engagement through June 16. Opening night is set for April 22.

Tony Award nominee Deborah Warner (Medea) will direct. The Testament of Mary will be the first collaboration between Shaw and Warner in the US. The show began at the 2011 Dublin Theater Festival, and was released as a short novel last November. This will be the New York theatrical debut for the author-playwright Colm Tóibín, whose novels include The Blackwater Lightship, The Master, and Brooklyn.

The Testament of Mary is set after the crucifixion of Christ. Mary, the mother of Jesus, is in the city of Ephesus where she is both guarded and protected. As two of her son’s followers set about giving shape to Jesus’ story, Mary tells her own story – the one which has not been heard.

The creative team includes set design by Tony Award nominee Tom Pye (All My Sons) and lighting design by Tony Award winner Jennifer Tipton (James Joyce’s The Dead.)
