Darren Goldstein will take over the role of Doug Simon in the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway production of Gutenberg! The Musical! at The Actors’ Playhouse on April 10. He replaces original star Jeremy Shamos, who departs on April 1. Ryan Karels, the show’s understudy, will play the role April 3-8.

The production is directed by Alex Timbers and also stars David Turner as Bud Davenport. In this musical spoof, co-written by Anthony King and Scott Brown, two aspiring playwrights perform a backers’ audition of their new project: a musical about Johann Gutenberg, inventor of the printing press.

Goldstein recently starred in the Vineyard Theatre’s production of Mary Rose. His other Off-Broadway credits include Abigail’s Party, Terrorism, St. Crispin’s Day, and Intimate Apparel.

Turner’s many stage credits include the national tour of Monty Python’s Spamalot, the Broadway productions of In My Life and The Invention of Love, and such Off-Broadway shows as The Butter and Egg Man, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), and The Last Sunday in June.
