Sofia Vergara to Join Broadway Chicago Cast Beginning April 27

Sofia Vergara will join the Broadway company of Chicago, currently playing the Ambassador Theater, April 27-May 24 and June 1-7, in the role of “Mama” Morton.
In between those engagements, she will perform in Chicago‘s national tour at Miami’s Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, May 26-31.

Chicago features a score by John Kander and the late Fred Ebb, including such hits as “All That Jazz,” “Mister Cellophane,”
“Razzle Dazzle,” and “Nowadays.” The production is directed by Walter Bobbie with choreography by Ann Reinking. The musical won six 1997 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical. On March 24, the show will become the seventh-longest running production in Broadway history, surpassing Rent, with 5,125 performances.

Vergara is a popular Hispanic TV star, who starred in her own top- rated weekly show, A que no te atreves (“I Dare You”), as well as hosting the syndicated Latino talkshow, La Bomba. She recently appeared on the big screen in Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns and Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail, and on ABC- TV’s Dirty Sexy Money. Additional credits include the FOX comedy feature Chasing Papi, Disney’s comedy film, Big Trouble, the independent film The 24th Day, and the film Four Brothers.

As previously announced, three-time Emmy Award nominee Chandra Wilson will play “Mama” Morton, June 8-July 5.
