Caligula Maximus Extends at La MaMa Through April 17

The run of Alfred Preisser and Randy Weiner’s Caligula Maximus, at La MaMa’s Ellen Stewart Theatre, has extended a second time, and will now play through April 17. Preisser has directed the production.

The show, which blends circus, music, dance and theater, takes place on the last night of the notorious dictator’s life, in his palace where he is stage managing, directing, and starring in one of his famous “entertainments” which test the limits of human intellect and appetite.

Ryan Knowles stars in the title role, with adult film star Justine Joli as Caligula’s wife, Caesonia. The cast also features Lady Circus troupe aerialist Anya Sapozhnikova, award-winning competitive bodybuilders Myra Adams and Roxanne Edwards, Coney Island Sideshow tattooed muscleman Tim Dax, as well as Alexandra Bernard, Luqman Brown, Angela Buccinni, Claire Buckingham, Eric Dorfman, Alicia Giangrisostomi, Jeff Goldfisher, Raheem Green, Sarah Hassan, Naima Ince, David King, Jessica Krueger, Andrews Landsman, Channing McKindra, Ella Mische, Alexandra Petrova, Charletta Rozell, Alicia St. Louis, JerZ Short, Tricia Storie, Aaron Strand, Miriam Tabb, Jenny Weinbloom, and Elian Zach.

The production features has sets and rigging by Evan Collier, costumes by Laura Clarke, lighting by Christopher McElroen, musical direction and lead guitar by Joe Shavel, musicians Kareem Clarke (bass), Jeremy O’Brien (drum/mayhem), Brendan Scharen (rhythm guitar), and Joel Siegel (drums/conga).
