Fat Pig Postpones Broadway Production Until 2011-2012 Season

The Broadway production of Neil LaBute’s Fat Pig, which was to have begun previews at the Belasco Theatre on April 12 and open on April 26, has been postponed until the 2011-2012 season, due to what is described as a “last-minute fallout of a key investment.”

LaBute was to have directed the play, about a romance between a conventionally handsome man and a sexy, plus-sized woman, and the way society’s obsession with physical beauty affects their relationship. The cast was to star Dane Cook, Josh Hamilton, Julia Stiles and Heather Jane Rolff.

In a statement, producers Aldo Scrofani and Heather Provost said: “It’s our dream to keep this terrific cast and stunning creative team intact as we work to reschedule Fat Pig for next season. The current financial situation did not leave adequate time to maintain the integrity of the show and its marketing campaign. This play deserves to be seen on Broadway and we remain very much committed to that goal.”
