Joshua Henry, PJ Griffith, David Larsen Join Broadway’s American Idiot March 15

Joshua Henry, PJ Griffith, and David Larsen will join the Broadway company of American Idiot, at the St. James Theatre, beginning tonight, March 15.


Henry will be reprising the role do Favorite Son, which he originated. Griffith, the lead singer of the band Blue Movie, will play the role of St. Jimmy through March 20, and Larsen will take over the role of Tunny. As previously reported, the musical’s composer and co-author Billie Joe Armstrong will return to the role of St. Jimmy on Tuesday, April 5, for the final three weeks of the Broadway production, which will end its run on April 24.


The musical, which follows a group of working-class characters, features a score by Green Day. It is directed by Michael Mayer, who wrote the book with Armstrong, features orchestrations by Tom Kitt, and choreography by Steven Hoggett. The show has won the 2011 Grammy Award for “Best Musical Show Album,” two 2010 Tony Awards, a Drama Desk Award, and an Outer Critics Circle Award, among other honors.


The cast also currently stars Van Hughes as Johnny, Justin Guarini as Will, Rebecca Naomi Jones as Whatsername, Libby Winters as The Extraordinary Girl and Jeanna de Waal as Heather. The cast also features Krystina Alabado, Declan Bennett, Jennifer Bowles, Andrew Call, Gerard Canonico, Miguel Cervantes, P.J. Griffith, Brian Charles Johnson, Jason Kappus, Lorin Latarro, Omar Lopez-Cepero, Leslie McDonel, Chase Peacock, Wallace Smith, Ben Thompson, Alysha Umphress, Aspen Vincent and Mikey Winslow.


The show features scenic design by Christine Jones, costume design by Andrea Lauer, lighting design by Kevin Adams, sound design by Brian Ronan, and video design by Darrel Maloney.
