Flashback Friday: When Idina Menzel Was Still Singing at Bar Mitzvahs for Rent Money

Idina Menzel and Anthony Rapp have come a long way since taking on their breakout roles in Jonathan Larson's hit 1996 rock musical Rent. The pair have come full circle, reuniting in the cast of If/Then (along with director Michael Greif), which opens this Sunday at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. With all of the Broadway stars coming into alignment, TheaterMania has decided to flash back to these long gone days of Rent with a 48 Hours segment featuring a yet-unknown Menzel — a 24-year-old pre-Tony Award pre-Adele Dazeem Bar Mitzvah singer on the brink of a big Broadway career.
