Inside the Recording Studio With Broadway’s Hands on a Hardbody

The short-lived musical is preserved for a forthcoming cast recording.

The cast of the recent Broadway musical Hands on a Hardbody headed to MSR Studios on April 25 to lay down tracks for the production’s forthcoming cast album, which will be released later this year via Ghostlight Records. Co-composer Trey Anastasio produces the disc, with co-composer/lyricist Amanda Green serving as joint producer, and Kurt Deutsch as executive producer.

Based on true events and the acclaimed 1997 documentary by S.R. Bindler, the musical features a score by Green (Bring It On: The Musical) and Phish member Anastasio with a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Wright (Grey Gardens). It is directed by Neil Pepe (Speed-the-Plow), with musical direction by Carmel Dean (American Idiot) and musical staging by Sergio Trujillo (Memphis).

Featured in the company are Keith Carradine (The Will Rogers Follies), Allison Case (Hair), Hunter Foster (Little Shop of Horrors), Jay Armstrong Johnson (Catch Me If You Can), David Larsen (American Idiot), Jacob Ming-Trent (Shrek The Musical), Kathleen Elizabeth Monteleone (Tales of the City), Mary Gordon Murray (Into the Woods), Jim Newman (Curtains), Connie Ray (Next Fall), Jon Rua (In the Heights), Keala Settle (Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Dale Soules (Grey Gardens), Scott Wakefield (Ring of Fire), and William Youmans (Wicked).
