Audra McDonald Makes Her Official Return to Broadway Tonight in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill

The five-time Tony Award winner plays legendary jazz singer Billie Holiday.

Lanie Robertson's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, starring five-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, opens on Broadway tonight at the Circle in the Square Theatre. The musical play is set in 1959 in a seedy Philadelphia bar and relives Billie Holiday's last performance, which took place only four months before her death at age 44. McDonald steps into the role of Holiday, and Lonny Price directs. The engagement is strictly limited to 10 weeks, with 70 performances.
