Violet, Starring Sutton Foster, Opens on Broadway Tonight

Seventeen years after it premiered at Playwrights Horizons, Jeanine Tesori's first musical, Violet, finally opens on Broadway at the American Airlines Theatre tonight. Two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster (Anything Goes) leads a cast that includes Ben Davis (A Little Night Music), Colin Donnell (Anything Goes), Alexander Gemignani (The People in the Picture), Annie Golden (Xanadu), and Tony nominee Joshua Henry (The Scottsboro Boys). Leigh Silverman (Chinglish) directs this production by Roundabout Theatre Company.

Violet comes to Broadway after an acclaimed one-night-only concert performance as part of last summer's Encores! Off-Center series. The story follows Violet (Foster), a girl who was tragically disfigured as a young girl in a freak wood-chopping accident. Twelve years later, her father (Gemignani) still harbors a lot of guilt over the incident. Violet believes she can be healed, however, by a miracle-working televangelist (Davis) in Tulsa. She embarks on a cross-country bus trip that changes her entire life.
