On Thursday night, the 2008-2009 Broadway season came to end with two openings, including the new musical 9 to 5, based on the hit 1980 film. The show’s composer-lyricist Dolly Parton was joined by her two co-stars from the movie, Oscar winner Jane Fonda (currently also on Broadway in 33 Variations) and Tony Award winner Lily Tomlin.
Marc Kudisch, who plays the show’s chauvinistic boss Franklin Hart, Jr., was joined for the opening by longtime gal pal and fellow Broadway star Shannon Lewis.
The fabulous Orfeh was on hand to support husband Andy Karl, who plays Janney’s love interest, Joe.
The opening night crowd included actress Jalel Moloney, who starred with Janney in the hit NBC series The West Wing.
Broadway favorites Jason Danieley and Marin Mazzie will play Sag Harbor’s Bay Street Theater later this month.
The wonderful Rosie Perez will be speaking next week at NYC’s recently opened Greene Space.
Today show co-host Kathie Lee Gifford and husband Frank were also among the star-studded first-nighters.
Also officially opening on Thursday was the Roundabout Theatre Company’s much-anticipated revival of Waiting For Godot. Here are the show’s Tony Award-winning stars Nathan Lane and Bill Irwin with director Anthony Page.
The lovely Amy Irving and Carol Kane were among the first-night crowd at Studio 54.
The great Lynn Redgrave, who will take part in the Goodspeed Opera House’s annual gala on May 2, was in the audience.
Tony winner Katie Finneran will return to the stage later this month in A.R. Gurney’s Children, which will play the Westport Country Playhouse and then move to the Williamstown Theatre Festival.
Jessica Hecht will star in the Atlantic Theatre Company’s upcoming production of Make Me.
